Ivy Asia – Sumo

AH Studios was commissioned to create an imposing sumo wrestler installation for Ivy Asia Chelsea, strategically positioned within a staircase alcove in Chelsea to serve as both guardian and conversation piece for guests ascending to the restaurant's upper levels, requiring our team to design and visualise the concept for designer approval while ensuring the figure would complement the venue's dramatic Asian-inspired aesthetic and maintain authentic cultural representation through meticulous research of traditional sumo wrestling culture.

The execution showcased AH Studios' commitment to cultural authenticity and attention to traditional craftsmanship, with our team carefully dressing the figure in a traditional mawashi using specialist wrapping techniques and authentic styling that honours the sport's 1,500-year heritage, with the installation's placement creating a dramatic reveal for diners enhanced by strategic backlighting against the restaurant's signature green onyx flooring, becoming one of the most photographed features at Ivy Asia Chelsea and exemplifying our ability to create culturally respectful yet theatrically impactful installations that enhance the dining experience while educating guests about authentic Asian traditions.
